Museums, guidebooks, archaeological sites, and academic publications each offered valuable content, yet integration remained elusive. Travelers encountered overwhelming choices without clear frameworks for prioritization. Students memorized facts without grasping connections. Enthusiasts accumulated knowledge without achieving synthesis. This fragmentation suggested that what was needed was not more information, but better organization, contextualization, and educational design.
The project's conceptual foundation drew inspiration from various traditions of cultural interpretation. The great encyclopedic projects of the Enlightenment demonstrated how systematic organization could make knowledge accessible. From the beginning, our approach rejected both academic insularity and superficial popularization.
